Car rental in Las Vegas

You can survive the Strip without a car. You cannot see anything around it without one — and what surrounds Las Vegas is the best reason to be there.

Collecting the car

Harry Reid International routes all rental traffic through a consolidated rental centre a few minutes from the terminals by shuttle. Expect the shuttle plus a queue at peak arrival times — build in an extra 45 minutes after landing. Several Strip hotels also have rental desks, which are convenient if you only want the car for a day or two of trips.

Parking at the resorts

Most large Strip resorts now charge for self-parking and valet, though policies differ by property and some waive it for loyalty members or hotel guests. Check your specific hotel before assuming it is free — it is one of the more variable costs on a Vegas trip.

Driving in the heat

  • Summer afternoons regularly exceed 105°F. Never leave anyone or any pet in the car, and expect the air conditioning to work hard.
  • Carry more water than you think you need on any desert drive. Phone signal disappears in stretches of the surrounding parks.
  • Check the tyres before leaving the lot. Heat is punishing on under-inflated tyres at freeway speed.

The trips that justify the rental

  • Red Rock Canyon— 30 minutes west, a scenic loop drive.
  • Valley of Fire— an hour northeast, and the better of the two close options.
  • Zion National Park— around two and a half hours.
  • Grand Canyon West— roughly two hours; the South Rim is four and a half.
  • Death Valley— two hours; avoid in high summer.

Questions

Renting a car in Las Vegas

The things worth knowing before you book, including who you are booking with and what leaves your account today.

In Las Vegas

Do I need a car if I am staying on the Strip?

Not for the Strip itself, where walking and the monorail cover it and resort parking now carries a daily fee at most properties. Rent for the trips out — the Grand Canyon, Zion, Death Valley, Red Rock.

Does resort parking cost extra?

At most large Strip resorts, yes, as a daily charge separate from your rental. Confirm it with your hotel before deciding how long you need the car, because a week of resort parking adds up quickly.

Booking with RentalForCar

Who am I actually booking with?

RentalForCar is an independent car rental reservation service operated by Affluence Hospitality LLC. We are not a rental company and we do not own vehicles. Your car is supplied and operated by a licensed third-party rental company, and the rental agreement you sign at the counter is with them.

What exactly is charged today, and what at the counter?

Today: a deposit against the rental plus our service fee, both itemised before you pay. At the counter: the remaining rental balance, local taxes and airport fees, and any extras you add on arrival. Nothing is added after you book that was not shown to you.

Can I cancel, and what does it cost?

Free within 24 hours of booking. After that a flat $50 fee applies and the rest of your deposit is refunded to the original payment method. No cancellation window is hidden in the small print.

Will I get the exact model in the photograph?

You are guaranteed a vehicle in the class you booked. It may be that model or a comparable alternative, which is why every listing says "or similar". If you need a specific model for a specific reason, call and we will tell you honestly whether it can be confirmed.

Do you take card details on the site?

No. Card details are entered on a secure payment page, not in our forms, and we never handle or store card numbers ourselves. We will never ask for a full card number by email, chat or text.

What happens if something goes wrong at the counter?

Call us on the number at the top of the page with your booking reference. We deal with the rental company on your behalf — a vehicle class that is unavailable, a charge you did not agree to, or a booking they cannot find.
