Debit card rentals
Renting with a debit card
Plenty of branches take debit — the trick is knowing the conditions before you’re standing at the counter.
How debit works at the counter
Where debit is accepted, the branch places the same refundable hold it would on a credit card — sometimes a larger one — and may ask for more proof of identity. It is accepted more often on economy and compact cars than on premium classes and vans.
What to bring
Your licence, the debit card in the driver’s name, and often a second form of ID. For airport pick-ups, many branches also ask debit renters for a return flight itinerary or proof of onward travel. Bring it and the pick-up is painless.
Why we check your branch first
Debit rules are set location by location, not nationally. The safest move is to tell us the exact pick-up and let us confirm what that counter takes and how big the hold is — before you book, not at the desk.
