Why visitors rent here

  • DFW sits between two city centres; without a car you are committed to one of them
  • Everything worth driving to in North Texas is a highway trip — Fort Worth Stockyards, Waco, Austin
  • Public transport between Dallas and Fort Worth exists but is slow enough that most visitors drive

Step by step

Collecting your car at DFW

  1. 1

    Clear baggage claim

Rental counters work from the name on the booking and the licence, not the flight. If you gave us a flight number, the branch can see a delayed arrival.

  2. 2

    Reach the rental desks

Free shuttle from the lower level of every terminal, every ten minutes or so, around the clock.

  3. 3

    At the counter

Licence, the card used to book and photo ID. This is where protection and extras are offered — you are free to decline anything you already hold cover for.

  4. 4

    Photograph the car

All four corners, the windscreen, the wheels and the roof, plus the odometer and fuel gauge. Two minutes here is what settles a damage dispute later.

Tolls and the thing that catches people

TollTag (NTTA). Most Dallas-area toll roads are all-electronic with no cash lanes.

The Dallas toll network is dense and entirely cashless. Driving the President George Bush Turnpike or the Dallas North Tollway without a transponder means the plate is billed and the rental company adds an administration fee per toll, not per day.

Before you drive off

  • Ask what the toll device costsper dayand whether it is charged on days you do not use a toll road.
  • Check the fuel policy on the agreement. Full-to-full is the cheapest arrangement for almost everyone.
  • Confirm the return time written on the agreement matches your booking — that is the figure that governs late fees.

What we will not claim

We do not know what DFW will cost on your dates until we check, and neither does any page that shows you a headline number. Airport rates move with local supply, the day of the week, events in Dallas and how much inventory the rental companies are holding. What we will do is quote the deposit, the service fee and the balance due at the counter before you pay anything. If a site promises you a fixed lowest price at every airport, treat that as marketing rather than a fact.

Questions

Renting at DFW

At this airport

Where is the DFW Rental Car Center?

A single building off the terminal area, holding all the rental brands. Free shuttles run from the lower level of each terminal continuously, so the pick-up is the same whichever terminal you land in.

Do I need a TollTag driving from DFW?

Most Dallas-area toll roads take no cash at all, so you need either the rental company toll programme or acceptance that plates will be billed with an administration fee added to each crossing. On a week of local driving the programme usually wins.

How long should I allow between landing and driving away?

Thirty to forty minutes from wheels down is realistic with checked bags: the walk to the shuttle, the ride, the counter and the walk to the bay. DFW is efficient but it is also very large.

Is DFW or Dallas Love Field better for renting?

DFW has far more inventory and a proper consolidated centre. Love Field is closer to downtown Dallas and quicker to get out of, but with fewer vehicles. If your flights allow either, DFW is the safer bet for availability.

Booking with RentalForCar

What does RentalForCar charge, and when?

A deposit against the rental plus our service fee is taken when you book, both itemised before you pay. The remaining balance, local taxes, airport fees and any extras are settled at the counter with the rental company.

Do you own the cars?

No. RentalForCar is an independent reservation service. Vehicles are supplied and operated by licensed third-party rental companies, and the rental agreement you sign at the counter is between you and that company.

Can I cancel?

Free within 24 hours of booking. After that a flat $50 fee applies and the rest of the deposit is refunded to the original payment method.

Will I get the exact model shown?

You are guaranteed a vehicle in the class you booked. It may be the model listed or a comparable alternative, which is why every listing says "or similar".
